Self-adhesive drywall wall patch XJ2468
A galvanised or aluminium plate on a fiberglass mesh, 4", 6" and 8" square, that closes a hole in one visit: stick, skim, sand, paint.
XJ2468 is a self-adhesive drywall patch for repairing holes in gypsum board walls and ceilings. A perforated galvanised steel or aluminium plate is bonded to a fiberglass mesh border; the plate gives the repair its strength and the mesh feathers into compound. Supplied in 4", 6" and 8" squares, light in weight, with good self-adhesion for one-person application, and a galvanised or aluminium plate for a permanent repair that also acts as a thermal barrier. After finishing, the repaired surface is smooth and reads the same as the original wall.

How the patch holds
The mesh border sticks to the board and takes the first coat of compound; the perforated plate gives the repair a rigid core so the patch does not flex when someone leans on the wall. That is the difference between a patch that lasts and a patch that shows a ring after a year.
The perforations are not decoration. Compound pushed through them locks the plate to the compound on both faces, so the repair behaves as one layer rather than as a plate sitting on a wall.
How to apply it
- Sand lightly around the hole and wipe the surface clean.
- Remove the backing paper from the patch.
- Apply patching compound to the metal side of the patch and press it firmly over the hole.
- Cover the whole patch area with compound, feathering the edges. Let it dry, then sand, and repeat as needed.
- Apply texture if the wall has any, then prime and paint.
Sizing the repair
A doorknob hole is usually 45–55 mm across, so a 4" patch covers it when the board edge is sound; anything larger, or a hole with crumbling edges, needs the 6" or 8" square so the mesh lands on solid board. Custom sizes are made on the same line.

Specification questions
Can the patch be used on a ceiling?
Yes. The plate carries the load of the compound and the patch is light enough to stay flat overhead once the first coat sets.
Is a 4-inch patch enough for a doorknob hole?
A doorknob hole is usually about 45–55 mm across; 4" covers it if the board edge is sound. If the edge is crumbling, go up to 6" so the mesh has something to hold.
Steel or aluminium plate?
Galvanised steel for the stiffest repair, aluminium where weight or corrosion matters. Both act as a thermal barrier across the opening.
Does it work on plaster?
It works on any flat, sound surface that compound will bond to. On old plaster, sand the area and remove anything loose first, otherwise the patch will lift at the mesh.
